Why Jorginho To Chelsea Could Be Good For City

It was a deal which, according to reports, was agreed in principle many weeks ago. At the end of the latest Premier League season, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola stated he wanted business done quickly. Before the start of the World Cup was the inference from the newly crowned Premier League winning manager.

However, with the World Cup officially ending on Sunday, Manchester City have only secured one of their targets. A fantastic purchase of Riyad Mahrez from rivals Leicester City in what has been reported to be £60 million. That, for those of you keeping track is £35 million less than the price quoted six months ago.

Developments have also recently happened with Manchester Citys well documented other target, Napoli's Jorginho. Talk from Napoli club President, Aurelio De Laurentis, a few days ago suggested that Chelsea would now be in the driving seat for the Italians signature.

With the London club courting ex Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri, talk was that Jorginho would prefer London and a reunion with his boss in Naples than moving to Manchester. In doing so, and just like Alexis Sanchez and Dani Alves, it seems as if promises made to Manchester City will now be gone back on.

The issue is something Manchester City will have to live with. A player who wishes to be somewhere is no god if he is forced somewhere else. The pursuit of Jorginho should, and probably has, ended. Now our attention should turn to other targets as we look to give Fernandinho some competition, and rotation in the upcoming campaign.

And it may be that the departure of Antonio Conte from Chelsea, which has looked on the cards all last season, could work in our favor. If Chelsea do bring in Sarri and he, in turn, brings in Jorginho, then what must N'golo Kante be thinking his contributions will be in the next campaign?

Playing in 33 of Napoli's League games and 39 appearances total last season he certainly seems to be a Sarri favorite. Will Kante be used in as may games under Sarri as Conte used him in each of the seasons he has been with the Blues?

So it could be that a guy, only nine months older than Jorginho could be eyeing a move. Having played over 100 Premier League games he certainly has more experience of the English game and the chance to win a third Premier League title with a third Premier League side could be something which puts him on his own in English history.

With Riyad Mahrez joining Pep's side, could a reunion of ex Leicester City players be on the cards? I certainly wouldn't be against the signing. Humble in his personal life, I don't think money would motivate his moves more than makes footballing sense. And who knows, if Sunday goes well he could be a World Cup winner too.

Sold to Chelsea for £32 million he could take the number 13 shirt he wears for his National side. Could we get Kante for a similar amount offered for Jorginho? I think not only is 50 million for a proven Premier League player doable, it is certainly within our budget. Let me know what you think about this possible move not being suggested anywhere else. The perfect fit or should City focus on talent from abroad? Let me know your thoughts.
